Shot in phantasmagoric Technicolor with an iconic score by the Italian Prog Rock band Goblin, Suspiria tells the story of Suzy Bannion (Jessica Harper), an American student who travels to Germany to attend a prestigious ballet school. Arriving at the mysterious Tanz Dance Academy, Suzy soon finds herself drawn into a nightmarish world of shocking deaths and sinister supernatural forces. Structured around a series of diabolically inventive set pieces drenched in gorgeous washes of primary-colored light, Suspiria anticipates the “final girl” slasher films of the 1980s, while creating an evocative, dark fairy tale aesthetic that remains chilling, seductive, and utterly unique.
