Reading and art enthusiasts are invited to join the Museum Book Club at OKCMOA! The Museum Book Club encourages visitors to engage with major special exhibitions by reading and discussing a specially selected book with Museum educator, Tori Waldron.
Each of the Book Club meetings begins with refreshments, including a themed snack and a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, then Book Club members will partake in a guided discussion of the literature and the displayed art in our galleries.
Book Club meetings will take place once per quarter as new exhibitions open. Registration is limited!
GEORGIA O’KEEFFE’S WARTIME TEXAS LETTERS
This meeting of the Museum Book Club will feature a guided discussion of Georgia O’Keeffe’s Wartime Texas Letters by Amy Von Lintel in the exhibition Magnificent Beauty: Georgia O’Keeffe and the Art of the Flower on March 14, 2024, from 5:30-7 pm.
“Amy Von Lintel brings to readers the collected O’Keeffe correspondence and added commentary and analysis, shining fresh light on a period of the artist’s life she characterizes as ‘some of the least appreciated in the vast O’Keeffe scholarship,’ but also as ‘a time when she discovered her own voice as a young, successful, and independent woman . . . a dedicated faculty member at a brand-new college . . . a vibrant social butterfly . . . a progressive woman who spoke her mind and fought for her beliefs to be heard.’”
