One of the most influential filmmakers of the 20th century, Jean-Luc Godard (1930-2022) is credited as the father of modern cinema, the figurehead of the French New Wave and the patron saint of generations of independent filmmakers all over the world. A romantic and idiosyncratic cinephile, his body of work payed homage to the medium’s stylistic history, while looking forward to an artistic future freed from industrial conventions and commercial imperatives. We’re honored to present his iconic 1962 masterpiece Vivre sa vie on 35mm film.
This event is free and exclusive to OKCMOA Film Society Members. Pre-registration is required.
About Vivre sa vie:
“Vivre sa vie was a turning point for Jean-Luc Godard and remains one of his most dynamic films, combining brilliant visual design with a tragic character study. The lovely Anna Karina, Godard’s greatest muse, plays Nana, a young Parisian who aspires to be an actress but instead ends up a prostitute, her downward spiral depicted in a series of discrete tableaux of daydreams and dances. Featuring some of Karina and Godard’s most iconic moments—from her movie theater vigil with The Passion of Joan of Arc to her seductive pool-hall strut—Vivre sa vie is a landmark of the French New Wave that still surprises at every turn.” -Janus Films
