When the Bourbon Kings decided to dig for the lost city of Pompeii in the mid-1700s, news of the extraordinary finds traveled the entire world. This class will explore what happened when the treasures buried for centuries were suddenly unearthed, the industry of art thieves that sprung up around it, and how the discovery of Pompeii affected the British colonies in America.
