Doomed to immorality, Manji slashes and bleeds his way through the centuries, like Wolverine with a death wish, until he crosses paths with Rin, a young girl desperate to avenge the murder of her parents at the hands of the vicious swordsmen of the Ittō-ryū school. Hired on as Rin’s bodyguard and protector, Manji finds a renewed sense of purpose and a chance at redemption. Based on a popular long-running Manga series, Blade of the Immortal is classic Miike: ostentatiously violent, beautifully shot, and filled with dark humor, bloodstained battle axes, and freakishly memorable characters.
