Driving down a dark rural road, inebriated, after his mother’s funeral, police officer Gun-soo (Lee Sun-kyun) runs over a pedestrian. Desperate to cover up his crime, Gun-soo improvises a plan to hide the man’s body in his mother’s coffin. Incredibly, things will go from bad to worse when an anonymous cell phone caller, who claims to have been a witness to the accident, begins to harass Gun-soo. The latest thriller to reach the U.S. from the genre’s contemporary hotbed, South Korea, A Hard Day skillfully balances its brisk action set-pieces with a corrosive sense of humor. This one is not to be missed by any fan of Asian pop filmmaking.
