A new event, Art in Bloom, features 8 floral sculpture interpretations of works on view at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art. These living sculptures will be created by four local florists; A Date with Iris, The Fleuriste, New Leaf Florist and Trochta’s Flowers and Garden Center. The arrangements will be on view from May 16 at 10 a.m. through May 19 at 5 p.m.
“We’re excited to offer visitors a new way to engage with the works of art in our galleries,” said Bryon Chambers, OKCMOA manager of tours and adult learning. “We hope that by seeing the floral sculptures next to the works of art that inspired the designer, guests will appreciate something about the art they may not have noticed before. As living sculptures, visitors will only have a few days to view these incredible creations.”
Paige Taylor, floral designer and wedding coordinator with Trochta’s Flowers and Garden Center added, “Trochta’s is honored to participate in Art in Bloom. Flowers have always been an inspiration to the art world and artists. This is an opportunity to interpret these pieces through our eyes, as floral designers. It is also a wonderful creative challenge to design a piece that is an extension of the art in the permanent collection at OKCMOA.”
Art in Bloom will be the featured event at the Museum’s regularly scheduled Third Thursday on May 16. From 5 to 9 p.m., visitors can enjoy cocktails on the Roof Terrace and specially scheduled tours in addition to the floral sculptures. “Art inBloom” will also provide inspiration for floral inspired gifts in the Museum Store.
Art in Bloom is included in the Museum’s standard admission prices for the weekend; $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, students and children 5 to 17, $5 for military and free for children under 5. The Museum is open for this event Thursday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.
