Cannes Film Festival: Winner Best Actress
Friday, July 15 | 8 pm
Awarded the Best Actress prize at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival, My King stars Emmanuelle Bercot as Tony, a middle-aged mother and attorney who faces a difficult rehab after a serious skiing accident. Sequestered at a rehabilitation center, Tony explores her tumultuous relationship with her ex, Georgio (Vincent Cassel, Black Swan), through a series of recollections presented as extended flashbacks. By turns, Tony and Georgio’s relationship is passionate, tender, suffocating, and destructive. In this, her second consecutive feature to receive a major award in Cannes’s main Competition, former child actress Maïwenn (The Professional) attends most closely to the psychological and emotional perspectives of her heroine Tony, while guiding both Bercot and Cassel to stand-out performances.
