Among the highlights of last year’s Sundance and deadCENTER film festivals, City of Gold follows Los Angeles Times food critic Jonathan Gold as he explores the endless diversity of L.A.’s culinary scene. The first food critic to win a Pulitzer Prize, Gold helped to democratize the notion of great food in this country, as he prioritized street food and ethnic hole-in-the-wall restaurants over fine-dining establishments. With City of Gold, we ride along with the always good-natured, curious, and eloquent Gold (in his signature green pickup truck) as he savors his favorite street-vendor tacos, Oaxacan grasshopper stew, and out-of-this-world regional Thai cuisine. City of Gold is also one of the most utopian portraits of Los Angeles, in all its ugly chaos, ever committed to the screen.
