Ashes to Ashes: David Bowie In Memoriam
Thursday, March 17 | 5:30 & 8 pm
Directed by Jim Henson (The Muppets), from a screenplay by Terry Jones (Monty Python), Labyrinth details fifteen-year-old Sarah’s (Jennifer Connelly, A Beautiful Mind) quest to save her infant brother, Toby, from his kidnapper, the evil Goblin King, Jareth (David Bowie). Sarah’s journey takes her to the center of a fantastical maze populated by puppets created by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop. A box office disappointment at the time of its release in 1986, the big-budget Labyrinth has since developed a substantial cult following. Bowie himself figures large in the production, serving not only as the film’s memorable villain—a role that would introduce him to a generation of children—but also as a key contributor to the soundtrack for which he recorded five songs, including the single “Underground.”
