The first superhero comic book adaptation to receive an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay, the critically acclaimed final installment in the Wolverine trilogy draws on the iconography of the Hollywood Western to tell a gritty tale of revenge and redemption. Set partially in near-future Oklahoma City, the film opens with weary Logan (Hugh Jackman) caring for an ailing Professor X (Patrick Stewart) in a hideout on the Mexican border. But Logan’s attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are up-ended when a young mutant arrives, being pursued by dark forces. One part dystopian road-trip thriller, one part poignant character study, Logan tempers kinetic violence with quiet emotional power.
