City of Ghosts—the latest from Academy Award®-nominated filmmaker Matthew Heineman (Cartel Land)—follows Syrian activist group ‘Raqqa Is Being Slaughtered Silently’ as they combat ISIS’s relentless campaign of terror and propaganda. A small band of students, journalists, and tech experts who came together during the 2012 Arab Spring, RBSS correspondents use social media to transmit videos and written accounts of the atrocities committed by the Islamic State. Moving back and forth between the frontlines of ISIS-occupied Raqqa and anonymous safe houses in Turkey and Germany, where correspondents continue their mission in exile, City of Ghosts is at once a definitive, harrowing record of the inhumane brutality of ISIS, and a heartrending portrait of a group of young men working under constant threat of violence to ensure a better future that they might never see.
