Mark Klett: Oklahoma City Panorama included twelve black and white photographs depicting a 360 degree panoramic view of downtown Oklahoma City, taken from the 30th floor of the Kerr-McGee building on July 19, 1991. Klett altered the placement of his camera approximately every forty-five minutes to capture the panoramic view of the city from a bird’s-eye perspective. Klett often juxtaposes his photographs with historical depictions of the same site to illustrate change in a particular location. He has “rephotographed” subjects drawn from the U.S. Geological Surveys of the 1860s and 1870s as well as Eadweard Muybridge’s 1878 panorama of San Francisco. These panoramic images of Oklahoma City were originally exhibited in 1991 at the Museum with historical photographs and “rephotographs” of downtown Oklahoma City in the exhibition Photographing Oklahoma: 1889/1991.
