Starting today, movie fans can register for a new, film-focused level of membership at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art. The OKCMOA Film Society is open to Museum members for a $40 annual fee. Film Society members will have exclusive access to events such as talks by filmmakers, special screenings, and curator led discussions. The first Film Society event is scheduled for March 28.
“As our film program continues to grow, we have seen greater and greater interest in developing programs that engage the viewer in various different ways, from programming to post-screening discussions,” said Michael J. Anderson, Ph.D., director of curatorial affairs. “We’re looking forward to using the Film Society as a way to continue to develop our incredible film community here in Oklahoma City. By launching this opportunity for more interaction and engagement, we hope members will take away additional insights and appreciation for film as an art form.”
The first Film Society event on March 28 will include a screening of “Wendy and Lucy” and a Q&A with filmmaker Kelly Reichardt and will be open to the public for $9. The screening will be free for Film Society members and there will be a special members-only reception prior to the film.
“We wanted the first event to be open to the public to showcase what the Film Society is all about,” said Anderson. “This event will be a great way to preview the benefits of becoming a member.”
Benefits of a Film Society membership include an invitation to four special events a year, two free film ticket vouchers to any Museum Film screening, opportunities to participate in collaborative Film Society programming, movie poster giveaways, e-newsletter subscription and drink specials.
The Film Society is an OKCMOA Museum membership enhancement and will cost an additional $40 regardless of membership level. New members should plan to sign up for a Museum membership in addition to the Film Society.
