Beginning Friday, Feb. 17, visitors will have numerous opportunities to further engage with two new exhibitions at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art, “After the Floating World” and “The Unsettled Lens.” Programming for these two new, original exhibitions includes “An Evening of Art and Performance,” a lecture with Dr. Andreas Marks, SONIC Free Family Day, workshops, classes and tours.
“We hope that by attending these workshops and events, visitors will look at the artworks on display in new ways,” said Tracy Truels, director of learning and engagement. “Engaging with art can happen in many ways, and we’re offering different types of experiences to help facilitate that engagement. Visitors can see Japanese woodblock prints in the galleries and then talk to a woodblock printmaker in our classrooms; they can listen to a curator’s tour of ‘The Unsettled Lens’; they can watch as members of RACE Dance Company respond to specific artworks. We hope these experiences both challenge and inspire our Members and visitors.”
The first opportunity to experience the new exhibitions will be this Friday, Feb. 17 from 5:30 to 10 p.m. at “An Evening of Art & Performance.” This special preview will include music by Magnificent Bird, performances by RACE Dance Company, poetry by Kerri Shadid, a screening of the Oscar®-Nominated Animated Short Films and printmaking demonstrations.
