Drawing inspiration from the special exhibition Edith Head: Hollywood’s Costume Designer, this class invites participants to explore their creativity while gaining an informative look at creating timeless and classic fashion art. Participants will explore various methods of garment drawing and detail shading as they create their own artwork illustrating the prevailing fashions of any particular point in time.
If you have questions regarding the class or registration, please email Programs Manager Neely Simms at nsimms@okcmoa.com.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Once again, OKCMOA is pleased to offer fashion illustration classes presented by Oklahoma City’s own Fashion Illustrator Extraordinaire—Rosemary Burke. For decades, Burke was the Artist/Illustrator in local newspaper print media, as well as national fashion magazines advertising for top local stores & boutiques (including Balliets, Ruth Meyers, and clear back to Al Rosenthal’s and John A Brown Co.), plus many National Fashion Designers. She also created T-shirt art for Oak Tree, National Cowboy Hall of Fame, Gaillardia, Painted Door, etc.
Her keen observation of design, detail, and attitude gives her illustrations a truly timeless, classic appeal. As a great fan of “all things Oklahoma,” Burke was selected to represent our state as ‘Special Envoy’ during DisneyWorld Epcot Center’s Oklahoma Centennial Pavilion—with her custom-designed commemorative “Howdy from Oklahoma” T-shirts and postcards. She was featured at JRB gallery in a retrospective of her work, Fashion As Art, doing portraits of many acclaimed star athletes, as well as Heisman Trophy winners. From 1982 to 1985, Burke served as the Regional Director and Ex Officio for The Fashion Group International—a worldwide affiliation of executives in the fashion fields and the applied arts. Having taught at our Sketch to Screen exhibition in 2010, it is our pleasure to once again offer her lively and informative fashion illustration classes.
Rosemary has been freelancing in a variety of artistic endeavors through her own business. Currently, she specializes in illustrations, prints, portraits, logo design, custom-commissioned fine art, and consulting.
