Visual Description: This is a black-and-white Polaroid photograph of two jimsonweed flowers set against their dark leaves. The Polaroid is roughly 4 inches tall and 3 inches wide. Extended Label Text: While O’Keeffe did not consider herself an art photographer, she used the medium to artistically engage with the natural world in a new way. In this photograph, O’Keeffe captured jimsonweed, a poisonous flowering plant native to New Mexico that only opens from dusk until dawn, in full bloom, the flowers’ white petals filling the photograph.
The use of the ephemeral jimsonweed flower as a photographic subject signals O’Keeffe’s enduring interest in nature and its cycles.

Texto de Etiqueta Extendido: Si bien O’Keeffe no se consideraba una fotógrafa de arte, utilizó el medio para interactuar artísticamente con el mundo natural de una manera nueva. En esta fotografía, O’Keeffe capturó un estramonio, una planta con flores venenosas originaria de Nuevo México que solo se abre desde el anochecer hasta el amanecer, en plena floración. Los pétalos blancos de las flores llenan la fotografía.
El uso de la efímera flor de estramonio como tema fotográfico indica el interés duradero de O’Keeffe por la naturaleza y sus ciclos.
