1.What made you decide to become a Member of the Oklahoma City Museum of Art?
For years before we were members, we would attend exhibitions and movies at OKCMOA. When we learned about OKCMOA Moderns, a dynamic group of patrons committed to supporting the Oklahoma City Museum of Art by providing an enriching and social atmosphere that connects art with people, we decided we wanted to be a part of what was going on at the Museum.
2. Which member benefit do you appreciate the most and why?
For us, it has always been OKCMOA Moderns. The private gallery tours, educational opportunities and lectures, and artist demonstrations hosted by the Moderns are always a blast. But, perhaps more importantly, we are incredibly thankful for the amazing relationships we have built with other Moderns members.
3. How would you describe your ideal visit to the Museum?
Our ideal visit to the Museum would be in conjunction with one of the Museum’s amazing summer exhibitions. We would be attending a private gallery tour hosted by the OKCMOA Moderns. We’d look around the room and see many friends we’ve made at the Museum over the years and some new faces too. The tour would be amazing and in the reception that follows, we’d catch up with old friends and make some new ones as we discussed the exhibition over drinks and food.
4. Do you have a story or memory to share about the Museum?
There is something for everyone at the Museum. Now as a parent, some of my favorite memories of the Museum involve visits with our young kids. Whether is the look of awe in my four-year-old son’s eyes when he stands before a massive work in the gallery, or my one-year-old daughter shouting “Look at that!” over and over upon seeing the Chihuly tower for the first time, I love seeing the museum anew through their inspired eyes.
5. Why do you feel the Oklahoma City Museum of Art is important- to you, your family, our community?
Museums are important. They are windows to other worlds and opportunities to see through the lens of another’s experience. A visit to a museum as a grade school student had a lasting impact on me personally and I often wonder what my life and career would look like had I not had access to such a moving experience.
In its mission to enrich lives through the visual arts, OKCMOA is providing similar access to impactful experiences every day. Whether through Free Family Days, OKCMOA Moderns events that connect art with people, or other outreach programs, all are welcome at the Museum and so many are inspired.
6. What is the Museum’s best-kept secret?
Everyone knows that for almost 50 years, OKCMOA’s Renaissance Ball has been the preeminent annual black-tie gala in Oklahoma City. However, few people know about Late Night.
Renaissance Ball Late Night takes place immediately following the Ball and is, hands down, the best party of the year on Oklahoma City. Open bar, light bites, good vibes, and dancing to live music all while supporting the mission of OKCMOA at a more attainable price point. We never miss a Late Night! Ever!
7. Is there anything else you would like to add?
The greatest way to enhance your experience with the Museum is to look for an opportunity to volunteer in support of the mission. I have had the privilege of serving on the OKCMOA Moderns board and the people I have worked with along the way have become really wonderful friends. I’m certain that I have received more from my investment in the Museum than I could ever hope to repay.
