From visionary director Masaaki Yuasa (Mind Game, Adventure Time’s “Food Chain”) comes The Night is Short, Walk on Girl, an offbeat animated comedy about one epic night in Kyoto. Like a modern-day Alice in Wonderland, a sophomore, known only as “The Girl with Black Hair,” embarks on a series of surreal adventures that lead her from a dizzying pub crawl to an overnight book market to a raucous school festival—as she charms, befriends, and rescues the local eccentrics who cross her path. Meanwhile, Senpai, a fellow student, pursues The Girl across the city, devising increasingly fantastic and contrived reasons to run into her, and hopefully win her heart. Rendered in Yuasa’s kaleidoscopic, pop-art style, The Night is Short, Walk on Girl beautifully captures the exhilarating potential of an amazing night out.
