Widely regarded as one of the most accomplished and influential directors in film history, Ingmar Bergman was instrumental in bringing the sensual and intellectual pleasures of European art house cinema to the attention of American film-goers. Over the course of his long and prolific career, Bergman developed an iconic signature style that combines serious existential themes; bold, theatrical intensity; and dreamlike, deeply symbolic imagery.
