Set in an Italian seaside town in the 1930s, Amarcord follows young Titta as he gets into trouble with his friends, clashes with his stern father, and observes the surreal antics of his neighbors and extended family. A carnivalesque portrait of provincial Italy during the fascist period, Federico Fellini’s most personal film satirizes the director’s youth and turns daily life into a circus of social rituals, adolescent desires, male fantasies, and political subterfuge, all set to Nino Rota’s classic, nostalgia-tinged score. Alive with emotion, raucous humor, and vibrant, dreamlike color, Amarcord remains one of cinema’s enduring treasures. We’re proud to screen Fellini’s Academy Award-winning labor of love on 35mm.
