One of the best-reviewed films of the past year, 45 Years tells the story of a married couple one week away from their forty-fifth anniversary. When Geoff (Tom Courtenay, an Oscar® nominee for his roles in Doctor Zhivago and The Dresser) receives a letter as a next of kin for an ex-girlfriend, his wife Kate (Charlotte Rampling, The Night Porter and Swimming Pool) is forced to rethink everything she thought she knew about her husband, and their forty-five years together. A film of considerable psychological nuance and real emotional impact, this British production, skillfully directed by Andrew Haigh (Weekend), is perhaps most memorable for its career-peak performances. Of particular note is Rampling, who has already earned Best Actress citations from both the Boston and Los Angeles film critics’ circles, en route to her first Oscar Best Actress nomination.
