INTRODUCTION TO IMPRESSIONISM (AGES 3-5 WITH PARENT)
Saturday, January 17, 10-11 am
$7.50 members/ $10 nonmembers (materials provided)
Maximum enrollment is 10 parent/child pairs.
Amanda Harmer

This class will introduce young artists and their parents to the special exhibition, American Impressionism: Paintings from The Phillips Collection, and allow them to complete a mixed media painting in the impressionist style. First, we will coat our watercolor paper with large sections of tissue paper by using watered-down glue. While it dries, we will read a story and tour the gallery. When we return, we will add oil pastels to the picture to create water lilies, a bridge, a person, a cityscape, and more. Finally, watercolors may be added by making dots of color to finish the piece. Please no younger or older siblings; these are special classes for just you and your preschooler. Children must meet the minimum age requirements for each class to participate.

LANDSCAPE PAINTING (AGES 6-9)
Saturday, January 17, 10 am-noon
$10 members/ $15 nonmembers (materials provided)
Maximum enrollment is 12 students.
Linda Busha

Let’s take a gallery walk through the special exhibit, American Impressionism: Paintings from The Phillips Collection, to see how artists have portrayed the land and sky in their artwork. Next, we’ll design and create our own landscapes using oil pastels and watercolor-resist painting techniques. This class has been designed to foster your child’s independent learning and social interaction with other children; children should feel comfortable working without a parent or guardian present.  Children must meet the minimum age requirements for each class to participate.

IMPRESSIONS OF VAN GOGH (AGES 6-9)
Sunday, January 18, 2-4 pm
$10 members/ $15 nonmembers (materials provided)
Maximum enrollment is 12 students.
Linda Cowan

Students will tour the galleries in search of paintings created in the impressionist style then learn how to paint a beautiful still life of sunflowers just like Van Gogh! First, we will learn how to enlarge our image of sunflowers and then use tempera paints to create a work of art that can be given as a gift or displayed at home. This class has been designed to foster your child’s independent learning and social interaction with other children; children should feel comfortable working without a parent or guardian present.  Children must meet the minimum age requirements for each class to participate.
